Envisioning Equity in Dance with The Misty Copeland Foundation

The Misty Copeland Foundation envisions a just world where everyone can experience the beauty and power of dance. To this end,  Misty Copeland, the first African American female principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, created The Foundation in 2021. The Foundation’s inaugural program: to provide children in under-resourced communities the opportunity to learn through ballet—advancing the art form through greater diversity, equity and inclusion.

We began our collaboration with The Foundation by designing its brand identity. This flexible system includes a logomark suggesting both Misty’s signature and two dancing figures. We have also created a responsive website, and social media strategy.

We continue to roll out new website content and features while running The Foundation’s fellowship program in which we mentor two Cooper Union undergraduate students each semester.
